Above are photos of some of the recent alpaca babies (also known as crias) born at our farm. Watching, naming and caring for these adorable young alpacas is part of the fun and joy of being alpaca farmers. We control the breedings to time for births in the spring, summer or early fall. That gives the babies enough time to grow a nice thick coat for our cold Indiana winters. Most of the time and when all is well, the alpaca births are completely unassisted by us. Our healthy dams deliver the crias, watch over them, bond with them, and help them figure out how to nurse while the dams stand perfectly still. It's a wonderful process to watch.
